A Guide To Stylish Ear Stacking
Ear stacking is one of the latest fashion and accessory trends and is only set to become even more popular. Ear stacking is all about curating your own look by combining different earrings, such as hoops, huggies, studs and clickers to create your own personalised earring style.
Typically worn on one ear as a statement, there are many different piercings that you can get as a way of customising and styling your ear stack and, when it comes to earrings, there is no end to the different designs and styles you can choose from and, with earring cuffs, you don’t even need to get the piercings to make the most of this style trends.
Let’s take a look at a guide of how to create a stylish ear stack and how to style from day to day.
Knowing The Different Piercings
Ear sacks use different ear piercings to create a custom look and, if you’re looking to expand your ear stack collection, you’re probably looking to add a couple of new piercings, but where to start? Let’s take a look at some of the different piercings you can get to curate your own ear stack.
Lobe
A lobe piercing is probably the first piercing you will get and, as the name suggests, the piercing will be on your lobe or further up your lobe (for a second or third piercing). Lobe piercings are one of the least painful to get, which is why so many people start with this one! Healing time for lobe piercings is around 4-8 weeks.
Upper Lobe
As well as your ear lobe, you also have the upper lobe where the lobe gets thinner and is accompanied with cartilage. Upper lobe piercings are usually close to the edge and aren’t a hugely common piercing as earring choice is reduced due to the positioning.
Helix
A helix piercing is located on the upper quadrant of the ear and is usually placed quite close to the edge of your ear, where the ear creates a lip. The cartilage in this area is quite thin, so the piercing can be relatively painless when done with a needle, with the healing time taking around 8-18 weeks.
Conch
Conch piercings are located on the curved dome in your ear. Conch piercings are considered to be one of the more painful piercings, but as the area is quite large, it looks great when wearing conch jewellery as a statement addition to an ear stack. It can take between 3-8 months for this piercing to heal.
Rook
A rook piercing is placed near to the inner ridge of the ear cartilage, parallel with the outer ear rim. A rook piercing requires thick cartilage and can be slightly more painful, but provides a lot of options when it comes to styling. Healing time is around 4-10 months.
Daith
A daith piercing hugs the cartilage on the inside of the ear and is quite a tricky piercing due to the location. As daith cartilage thickness differs from person to person, some people may find that they’re not suitable for a daith piercing.
Mixing Two Metals
Typically, it was a big no-no when combining two different metals as part of your jewellery collection, but with ear stacks, you don’t have to stick to just one metal. Try mixing up gold and silver pieces to create that extra glow and to create your own ear stacking style. If you’re stacking some gold huggies in your lobe piercings, why not add a cute silver stud at the top of your ear? Or, if you’re all about silver statement pieces, a couple of gold earring chains can really elevate your ear look!
Earring Chains
Speaking of earring chains, these statement pieces are a new style staple when creating your very own ear stack. They are a must have in any jewellery collection, especially if you are looking to create an eye-catching stack. Mix earring chains with hoops, studs, huggies or even another chain for a darin look. Simply wear dangling in one piercing, or snake through multiple piercings to add an edgy extra.
The Everyday Stack
For an everyday stack that’s suitable for work, home or even just running errands, then you want to choose pieces that are dainty and simple which will go with your look, no matter the outfit. For everyday stacks, you might want to choose earrings that are all one metal so that it doesn’t deviate too much from your outfit choice and pick plain metal jewellery, with just one or two pieces with a little colour or dazzle. Huggie hoop earrings, studs and flatbacks are great choices for everyday stacking earrings. Stick to around 3-4 pieces and there you have it – the perfect everyday stack!
