4 Of The Most Googled Beauty Questions of 2021

Every year, Google releases data in its Year In Search report, which takes a look at the terms people were searching for most in the year previous. In early 2021, we were still in some form of lockdown thanks to coronavirus and as a result, this impacted search trends, least not in the beauty industry.

With hairdressers, salons and beauticians closed for months on end, it’s no surprise that people took to the search engine to find answers to their important beauty-based questions. From the best skincare routines to colouring your hair at home, here are a few of the most Googled beauty questions of 2021.

What’s The Correct Order For Skincare?

Perhaps one of the most popular beauty-based questions, “What’s The Correct Order For Skincare” is a very vague question, but is one that many people ask on a monthly basis. Getting your skincare routine right is so important when it comes to the health of your skin but, as we all have different skin types and complaints, there is no one right answer. Dry skin won’t need a toner, whilst oily skin should avoid using face oils.

Each skin type is unique so it’s mostly a case of trial and error and finding out which products work for you and achieve the results you desire. Remember, the best steps for skincare is to start with your thinner, water-based products first, then followed by thicker, oil-based products.

How Do I Colour My Hair At Home?

With salons shut for months, it’s not surprising that many people turned to Google to find out how to colour their hair at home. Searches for “how to dye your own hair” rocketed during the lockdown periods and with more and more people reaching for box dyes, people had to learn, or at least try, to dye their own hair. If you’re still not confident, then there are some tips that can help you to give your hair a transformation, even if only semi-permanent!

●      Do A Patch Test

Even if you’ve had your hair dyed before, you’re never sure how you’re going to react, especially when using different chemicals. You should always do a patch test before applying any hair dye, after all, it’s better to find out now rather than later.

●      Avoid Marking Your Hairline

It’s easy to assume that dyeing your hair at home is pretty straightforward but it’s all too easy to get a few marks on your hairline that are almost impossible to get off. Before starting your home dyeing session, apply a line of lip balm or vaseline around your hairline so that if any hair dye does get there, you can just wipe it off.

●      Get Two Boxes Of Dye

It’s better to have too much, than not enough hair dye, so you should always look to get at least 2 boxes, depending on the thickness and length of your hair. You want to ensure that you have enough dye to focus on your roots and then to pull it through to your ends.

What Do Vitamins Do For Your Skin?

As a collective, we have all been more invested in our health than before over the past two years. More and more of us have been regularly taking vitamins and supplements in order to support our health and keep us somewhat naturally protected against illnesses. As a result, more people became aware of the positive impacts that vitamins, supplements and probiotics can have on your skin.

Regularly taking vitamins, supplements and probiotics can not only support your general health but benefit your skin in ways that you weren’t even aware of. Vitamins and supplements can help to defend against signs of ageing, tiredness, skin damage and provide collagen which gives skin a boost and glow.

Do Beauty Products Expire?

Thanks to shops being closed and us not being able to get out as much as we once could, a lot of people were forced to look for the answer to the question do beauty products expire. The short answer is, yes. Yes, they do. Skincare and beauty products all come with their own expiry dates which should be followed as closely as possible.

Remember, they are there for a reason and when you’re applying products to your face daily, you want to ensure that you’re not putting your skin at risk of damage, irritation or inflammation. To ensure the longevity of your makeup products, wash your hands every time you apply makeup as this will prevent bacteria from getting into the products, which will make them last longer. You should also wash your makeup bags and brushes regularly to keep bacteria at bay.
